Double-sided easels are popular for their versatility.  A double sided easel can contain two sides with the same type of easel pad, whether that's a flipchart, a chalkboard, a whiteboard, or something else entirely.  Similarly, two-sided easels can also contain different pads on each side, with one side perhaps having a writeable, alterable surface, while the other has a magnetic board or a pin board for hanging important materials.  Use a double sided easel for times when you need extra display space, or simply need two sets of open space on one easel.
